Official vs Community MCP Servers
Not all MCP servers are created equal. Here's how to tell the difference and why it matters.
Official MCP servers
Built and maintained by the tool vendor itself, usually linked from their own docs or GitHub org. They tend to stay in sync with product changes and get security patches, since the vendor is directly responsible for them.
Community MCP servers
Built by third parties — often before a vendor ships their own. They can be excellent, but maintenance depends entirely on the individual maintainer's time and priorities. Always check the last commit date and open issues before relying on one in production.
How we label listings
- Official — vendor-built and documented.
- Community — third-party built, working as of last check.
- None — no MCP server exists yet.
- Unknown — we haven't verified this yet.
